Accessibility

Streaming can be made more welcoming with a few practical choices.

Captions

  • Use automatic captions where available.
  • Consider recording the stream and adding improved captions later.
  • Speak clearly and avoid talking over collaborators.

Visual clarity

  • Use large fonts when screen-sharing code or slides.
  • Prefer high-contrast themes.
  • Avoid relying on colour alone to communicate meaning.
  • Describe what you are doing when demonstrating visual interfaces.

Chat and interaction

  • Read out or summarise audience questions before answering.
  • Give people multiple ways to participate, for example chat, Q&A documents or follow-up issues.
  • Make expectations for behaviour clear.

Recordings and notes

  • Where possible, share links, commands, notes or transcripts after the stream.
  • Consider whether a written summary would help people who could not attend live.
